The prize was a brand-new Honda Jazz when RE/MAX Stars hosted a community event recently to celebrate one year in business.
Andrew and Kerry Finch were the winners, and excitedly collected the car from RE/MAX Stars broker owners, Lisa and Kevin Walden, last weekend.
Shortly after the Waldens opened their real estate busines on 1st June 2019, Lisa Walden decided a car give-away on the office’s first birthday was in order.
“Kevin and I are well known in Pokeno but I really wanted to celebrate us taking on the business as franchise owners so we decided on a competition for anyone who listed and sold or bought through RE/MAX Stars by the office’s first birthday.
“We went out and bought a blue Honda Jazz from South Auckland Honda.”
By the time the first birthday came around, there were 120 entries, with the office having sold 60 properties in the year. The vehicle had also done a few kilometres in that time.
“I decided to buy a new blue Honda Jazz for the give-away because the ‘old’ one had 21,000kms on it. The car dealership had changed ownership during the year and I think the new General Manager, Andy Kimber, was a bit taken aback,” Mrs Walden laughed.
Mr Kimber, RE/MAX New Zealand CEO, Don Ha, and Waikato District councillor Jacqui Church spoke at the event, which had been postponed from the start of June until 25th July due to COVID-19. More than 200 entrants, customers and community members filled the Pokeno Hall. RE/MAX New Zealand’s Steve Starke was MC and local businesses catered.
“It was just an amazing community event. Everybody is still talking about it!” she said.
The Waldens plan to celebrate RE/MAX Stars’ second birthday with another prize car and already have ten entries for next year’s competition.
Mrs Walden has since traded the ‘old’ blue one for a new red one, which will be the colour of next year’s give-away.
“The competition will again be open to anyone who lists and sells or buys through RE/MAX Stars by 1st June 2021, the only difference is that they will need to be present when their name is drawn out. We just hope the Pokeno Hall is big enough!”
With RE/MAX Stars having doubled its sales team in its first year of business to eight sales agents plus a trainee, the Waldens may also be looking for larger business premises.
“We have a very solid market in Pokeno and we are achieving Auckland prices – in the high $700k bracket – for our sellers. We can only envisage continued demand,” Mrs Walden said.
RE/MAX Stars continues its strong community focus and will host the Pink Ribbon High Tea in association with Pokeno CBD on Saturday 3rd October.
