RE/MAX Riverina Realty opened this month in Hamilton, with its name taken from the historic hotel that once occupied the site.
Well-known local businessman Steve Roper established the global real estate brand in the city with fellow managing director Jo Harris and office manager Lee Roper.“We wanted to bring one of the world’s greatest real estate names to the Hamilton region in a way that had links to this community.
Riverina Hotel was a magnificent building, once purportedly graced by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother. It was New Zealand’s first international hotel.“We bought a property on the site of the old Riverina Hotel, hence the office name, and we have fitted it out complete with a mural of the old hotel.”
The Ropers sought out the top agent in the area to join them as a business partner. Jo Harris is an experienced, highly respected local agent who, like Steve, is a property investor with solid portfolio and has a strong connection with the Waikato Property Investors Association. She is also a New Zealand champion in dragon boating who has a passion for exercise and climbs the Hakarimata Steps every Friday morning.
“I am in this industry because I love helping people, whether that be in fulfilling their real estate dreams or reaching their financial goals. ‘My passion equals your result’ is my mantra. “As an agent, I strive to create wealth through property for my customers. Now, as a business owner, I can help create wealth for agents on my team because the RE/MAX culture encourages agents to grow their own business.
“Our business, RE/MAX Riverina, grows while they grow their own businesses.” She said the start to the year was proving a great time to sell. “Buyer demand is extremely high and far exceeds the supply of stock. Sale prices are staying high; higher than expectations in some cases.”
In the Hamilton market, 373 houses sold in December 2020. “We saw a record increase in the median price in that month, at $730,000 up from $605,000 in December the previous year. “Days on market in the Waikato sits at 24 days, which is much less than the 10-year average of 37 days for December,” Jo said.
RE/MAZ New Zealand CEO Don Ha said the RE/MAX Riverina team was an exciting addition to the network “Steve has an entrepreneurial spirit. RE/MAX is the brand of choice for business owners like him.” Steve said being RE/MAX meant his team could provide a real estate service both locally and globally. “We have no geographic boundaries, plus we have the opportunity to be involved in projects and developments. These things are very important for a new office opening. We already have access to existing listings,” said Steve.
Jo also values this RE/MAX point of difference. “We have real relationships with other agents across New Zealand, in Australia, in the UK and, in fact, in more than 110 countries and territories. That is a massive buyer reach for Hamilton sellers,” she said.
“That and the very culture of RE/MAX made our direction clear and easy,” said Steve “We are proud to be introducing RE/MAX to the Hamilton region and the iconic RE/MAX balloon will be flying high at the ‘Balloons over Waikato’ festival in March.”
